UE Giving Latino Teens Vaccinated Against COVID Chance at Full-Ride Scholarship

By September 30, 2021COVID-19

The University of Evansville is offering a new incentive to Latino teens who get fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to UE, any Latino high school student who becomes fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at an upcoming vaccine clinic will be eligible to win a four-year, full-tuition scholarship at the University.

The clinic will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. That’s located at 1301 S. Green River Rd. in Evansville, Indiana.

On that day, the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered to anyone who’s at least 12-years-old. Second doses will then be administered at the next clinic on Sunday, Oct. 17, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

UE says the winner of the full-ride scholarship will be randomly selected in a drawing at the second vaccine clinic.

According to UE, Latino high school students who are already vaccinated are still eligible to enter to win the scholarship. Fully vaccinated Latino teens can enter the drawing if they bring a friend, family member, or neighbor to the clinic to be vaccinated. UE says this individual must receive both doses of the vaccine for the student to be eligible for the scholarship.

During the vaccine clinics, UE says that shots will be administered by walk-in only and that identification cards and insurance will not be required. Everyone planning to attend either clinic is asked to wear a mask.

UE says the idea arose from a “ChangeLab” – which is a semester-long UE course in which student teams develop innovative solutions to challenges either locally, nationally, or globally. The ChangeLab was held throughout the Spring 2021 semester and titled “Latinx Community Health.”
